Chrome removed the launchpad, but it's easy to create one's own.

First install chromium:

sudo apt-get install chromium

Now, right-click desktop, add launcher and configure as following:

Name: WhatsApp
Command: chromium --app=http://web.whatsapp.com

confirm. Add to menu when asked (if desired).
